Press made major accomplishments while at  St. Joe Prep in the sport of Track. He was two time undefeated Kentucky State Cross Country Champion: two time Runner-up in the Kentucky State Track Meet One Mile, and received a Track Scholarship to the University of Kentucky. He continued his awards at U of K with four time SEC Track Champion, the SEC Cross Country Record 4.4 miles, 6th Place NCAA Steeple Chase; 1959 all American; and National Champion 2-man 10 mile Relay. Press graduated from UK in 1961 and with a Masters Degree in 1965. His coaching career in track at UK enabled athletes to make All American honors 7 times with 7 National Champions. He had four Olympic Performers and UK grabbed 33 Titles in SEC Competition. Press retired to Florida in 2005. Currently, Press is training to compete in 2007 Senior Olympics to be held in Lousiville, Ky. Press married Phyllis Collins in June 1967, his best friend of 38 years. They have two children and two grandsons.
