Edward Doherty was born September 12, 1931 in Brooklyn,
N.Y. He attended grade school at Saint Theresa in Brooklyn graduating
in 1945, and graduated from St. Joe Preparatory in Bardstown, Ky.
in 1949. He graduated from Loyola College of Maryland in 1953.
Edward lettered at St. Joe Prep. in baseball for four years, basketball
for three years, and football for three years. Basketball honors he
received were: All Conference Regular Season (3 years), All Conference
Tournament (3 years), All District (2 years), and All Regional (2
years). His basketball team won the S.C.K.C. tournament in 1947 and
the District Tournament in 1947 and 1948. His baseball team won the
District Tournament every year from 1946 to 1949
Basketball honors received at Loyola College (where he scored over
1100 points in three seasons) include: All Mason-Dixon Conference
(2 years), All Conference Tournament (2 years), Loyola College Outstanding
Athlete 1953, and inducted into Loyola "Hall of Fame" in
1982. His team won the Mason-Dixon Conference in 1952 and the Mason-Dixon
Tournament in 1953.
Edward coached basketball at Loyola College and John Hopkins University.
His teams at Loyola won over 200 games and two Mason-Dixon Conference
Tournaments. His most personal coaching satisfaction came in seeing
every senior on his college teams graduate.
